Among the many changes that resulted from the initial COVID-19 outbreak, one that directly impacted Alpha Tau Iota was the inability to organize and participate in volunteering events in-person. This semester, after resuming in-person learning, [we] organized an event to make literacy packets to donate through Love Letters for Literacy, as a way to return to their roots as an organization focused on serving their community by fostering literacy. They had so much fun, and it created a wonderful opportunity for prospective and current members to talk about their chapter’s service goals as an organization. It is always so rewarding making these sets, as it is a chance to be creative, and do a good deed for children in need. It is also a relatively easy service project to explain, which made it perfect for doing at one of our weekly meetings. All of our members…loved getting to make them, and it was a great way for our members to work on…service, while also talking with other members within the club itself. I have worked with Love Letters for Literacy as a part of Circle K in the past, and was so glad that my executive board and members were so eager to help once again.
